Ludacris isn’t Atlanta’s only export and there are dozens of quality recording studios here to prove it. Here are a few of our favorites:
Patchwerk Recording Studios – Despite the oddly-spelled name, Patchwerk is actually one of the most respected names in recording in the Southeast. They’ve got four locations and lots of trained employees who can help anyone put together a professional demo tape.
Tree Sound Studios – The most unique studio in all of Atlanta is also its greenest – Tree Sound is totally eco-friendly and they specialize in artists with a decidedly new age slant. They’re right in the heart of the city for convenience, too.
Solar Sound Studio – This is the place to go if you need in-house mixing services and the latest and greatest recording technologies behind your tracks. Solar Sound has a laundry list of famous clients to vouch for them as well as all types of professional accreditations.

Elliot Easton, the guitarist for The Cars, has been spending a little time behind the boards in Scottsdale, Arizona at Brick Road Studio producing on a few select projects. Musicians wishing to work with the rock legend should contact the studio to submit their project for Easton’s consideration. Brick Road’s in-house producer and engineer Scott Leader is helping to arrange sessions with the classic rock icon.

Brick Road Studio offers the latest in recording technology including the finest professional software for digital recording. The studio offers a wide array of equipment including everything from top of the line microphones to cutting edge consoles and instruments from the finest manufacturers. Brick Yard is a full service studio offering services ranging from recording and mixing your project to mastering and even pressing compact discs and artwork.

With the recent reformation of The Cars, having the opportunity to work with Elliot Easton in a studio like Brick Yard could be an amazing experience as well as a commercial coup for the right band. Brick Yard Studio may seem like a relatively new name in the recording industry, but the studio has been around for a while and was previously known as Southwest Studios.

Peter Gabriel was in a quandary. Although the owner of his own studio, Real World in Wiltshire, his collaborators were urging him to use AIR Studios instead to record his two classically-themed albums, “Scratch My Back’ (2010) and “New Blood’ (2011.) He decided to book Lyndhurst Hall at AIR studios. The former album became a critical success, while the latter album has not been officially released yet.

London is far more convenient for musicians to get to than out of the way country villages, where many other UK recording studios are based. Studio musicians from all over Europe are often called to score movie soundtracks or for unusual musical collaborations between classical and pop like Gabriel-s projects. London contains a fine network of public transportation and private taxis so foreign musicians can quickly get to the studio with a minimum of stress.

Another advantage that AIR Lyndhurt has over many other studios is its size. Getting a 50 piece chamber orchestra together requires a lot of space. Lyndhurst Hall is palatial compared to the more famous London studio Abbey Road ” or Gabriel-s own Real World. AIR Studios provides enough space for musicians as well as for engineers, producers, collaborators and the occasional rock star like Peter Gabriel.

Producer Steve Albini had a specific vision when he founded Electrical Audio in 1997. The Chicago recording studio went against the grain of the digital age and used exclusively analog equipment. Albini had never been a fan of digital recording so the studio he built featured top of the line analog set-ups all around including the tape recorders and mixing decks.

In 2007, some digital capabilities were added, but the studio assured everyone that Albini had not experienced a change of heart in relation to digital technology. Instead, Greg Norman, a studio technician, pointed out that while ProTools had been added to the studio’s equipment as it had become as vital a piece of equipment as a piano and Albini recognized this fact, he still did not embrace the technology.

In addition to Electrical Audio’s two studios, facilities include a lounge and a kitchen along with private offices for the clients. Those offices include a washer and dryer as well as a shower and private bathroom. With high speed internet available and a library of over 500 films, Electrical Audio is perfect for the band that wants to settle in somewhere that allows them to feel at home while recording.

Ardent Studios in Memphis, the studio that has played host to Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, R.E.M. and Led Zeppelin is celebrating its 45th Anniversary in style – by the complete renovation and upgrading of its Studio C.

At the heart of the new-look studio will be a state-of-the-art 48-channel SSL Duality console. Ardent remains committed to its history by retaining its decommissioned Neve V as a vintage alternative in the control room. In the same vein, with artists such as B.B. King, The Raconteurs and 3 Doors down having graced the studio’s unique 32′ by 26′ acoustic room, Ardent has chosen to retain the control room’s adjoining tracking space.Get more information here. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118042009?categoryid19&cs1&cmpidRSS7CNews7CLatestNews

Although its first incarnation was as in a garage owned by founder John Fry’s family, Ardent Studios’ success saw it move first to new premises on National Street in 1966 and later to its present location on Madison Avenue. It currently has three NEVE and SSL desk-equipped studios which will surely help it add to the Studio’s impressive slew of gold and platinum records. Fry attributes the Studio’s success to its ability to adapt to technological changes and the mechanics of the recording industry and also to maintaining relationships with artists.
